Special Workshop Danish Folk Dance – September 20, 2025
On September 20, 2025, IFDO is hosting a workshop Danish Folk Dance. Our guest teacher is Simon-Yannick Plourde, who will be joining us from Quebec-City.
Danish folk dances are a great way to discover what International Folk Dance has to offer. The music and steps will feel reasonably familiar to many Canadians, but at the same time you will get a taste of the fantastic feeling of connection and fun that International Folk Dance provides. The dances will be a mix of circle and couple dances, but it is not necessary to bring a partner, as it is customary to find a different partner for each dance.
With over 30 years of dance experience and more than 25 years of teaching, Simon-Yannick Plourde shares his love of world cultures through dance with both young people and adults in groups across the province of Québec. In the summer of 2024, he travelled to Denmark, where he took advantage of a leisure trip to discover and collect traditional dances from a country still rarely represented in international folklore ensembles in Québec. He now warmly invites us on a journey to the heart of the land of hygge.
To make the day even better, our friends at Ottawa Contra Dance are hosting a dance at the same location in the evening, so you can fill your Saturday with dance!
Time:
Morning Session: 9:30 am – 12:00 pm – intended for dancers with some folk dance experience
Afternoon Session: 2:00 pm – 4:30 pm – open for everyone, no experience or partner needed.

Each spring, IFDO organizes a workshop weekend. In recent years, we have welcomed Wijnand Karel and Roberto Bagnoli, and Jan Knoppers to Ottawa. In 2026 our weekend workshop is planned for April 25-26
